COMMUTERS are warned to brace themselves for more disruption to their journeys due to a train drivers' overtime ban.

Members of the Aslef union who drive services on Southern Railway have imposed a ban on working on rest days which comes into force today.

It means that the train company have been forced to introduce an emergency timetable for parts of its network.

Key alterations for Sussex passengers include:

  • A very limited peak service between Brighton and London
  • No Southern trains between Lewes and Seaford (bus service in operation)
  • No direct service between London and Chichester, Barnham, Portsmouth or Southampton - a change of trains will be required.

Passengers are advised to check timetables 24 hours before travel at nationalrail.co.uk

Southern director Alex Foulds said: "This is the first day when ASLEF’s overtime ban will be felt on a non-strike day.

"We’re sincerely sorry but passengers are advised services will be severely reduced and, on some routes, cancelled altogether.

"We will put on rail replacement buses where we can. We urge people to check before they travel on the day."
