DEVELOPERS who turned around a mothballed seafront site are hoping to repeat the success two miles along the coast.

Sussex-based Strenson Investments has expressed an interest in converting a former toilet block on Shoreham Beach Green.

The company hope to repeat the success of the conversion of the Mermaid café site on Lancing Beach Green.

The firm say they have an open mind as to what could be achieved at the site and want to hear from residents.

Adur District Council made the unusual offer to developers to rejuvenate the toilet block on Shoreham Beach Green last year.

Wilbo’s were named the preferred developer but announced this autumn that they would walk away from the project after public opposition to their plans.

Strenson Investments managing director Alex Hole said the company had been looking for a second site for Perch for the past few months.

The company rejuvenated the derelict site on Lancing Beach Green to create the hugely popular Perch café which opened in summer 2015 along with Beach Fit Gym.

Mr Hole said the company had been invited to tender their ideas to the council by January 7 but the current design plans was a “blank piece of paper” and they wanted to hear from residents what they wanted.

The company director said plans would include a café but could also include artists’ studios, gallery, shop or potentially a bike rental.

Mr Hole said: “We've been looking for a second Perch for a couple of months now.

“Following conversations with the council and a number of our customers, the site on the Beach Green on Shoreham Beach has been mentioned.

“We've seen this for some time but we haven’t had the chance to act on it.

“Whilst we’ve heard anecdotally about the site and what local residents would like to see on it, we’d now like to formally start a conversation with the residents of Shoreham Beach, taking a different approach to those who have gone before us.

“For us, no development truly works without the backing and consent of the local community."

Mr Hole said while it was not ideal to launch a public consultation in December, they had to work to a particular timeframe for the project.

An event will be held in the Harbour Club on Shoreham Beach on Monday, December 19 from 8pm to gauge public feeling.
