BRIGHTON and Hove Albion may have played on Friday night at the Amex Stadium but there's also a great chance this weekend to support another Albion team.

One of the club's two powerchair teams are staging a rare home game this weekend and Seagulls fans are being encouraged to go along and support them.

The teams are run by Albion in the Community (AITC), the official charity of Brighton and Hove Albion FC, and the team playing this weekend compete in the top division in the country.

In fact, the team is currently second in the league after enjoying a fantastic start to the new season that has seen them win 11 of their opening 14 league games.

Because they play in the national Muscular Dystrophy UK Premiership their games take place in Nottingham as a result of its central location, meaning BHAPFC rarely play fixtures here in Sussex.

However, having been drawn at home in the cup, they will host Aspire PFC at the University of Brighton’s sports hall in Falmer on Sunday – providing fans with a rare opportunity to see the team in action.

Aspire PFC are the defending league champions and went the entire campaign undefeated last season.

They are fourth in the league - two places below BHAPFC - and the teams have already met twice this season, winning one game each.

Paul Brackley, AITC’s disability manager, said he hoped as many fans as possible would take the opportunity to watch the team live.

He said: "Our team has started the season superbly, are doing well in the league and have a real chance in the cup competition.

"Aspire are one of the best teams in the country so Sunday’s game should be a very close match between two very good teams.

"A lot of Albion fans do take an interest in how the team does and it would be great to see some of them at Sunday’s game to cheer the team on."

Both league matches were decided by a single goal and Sunday’s game promises to be a fantastic showcase for not only BHAPFC but also powerchair football.

The game starts at 2.15pm and entry is free, although fans do have to email their name to AITC in advance to secure a place.

Parking will also be available at the nearby American Express Community Stadium.

Interest in Brighton and Hove Albion Powerchair Football Club has been on a high in recent months with many Albion fans following the team’s exploits in the European Champions Cup – powerchair football’s equivalent of the Champions League.

The team travelled to Denmark to take part in the competition and only missed out on a semi-final place on goal difference. They were also the only team to beat eventual winners and current French champions Auch.

Those fans who have secured a ticket will then receive email confirmation.
