WATER supplies have been reconnected to 1,200 customers after a mains burst on a busy Brighton road.
Concrete and tarmac was displaced in Ditchling Road following the incident.
It caused more than a thousand people to be without water for around three hours.
Engineers from Southern Water are investigating the issue.
A Southern Water spokeswoman said: "We have identified a burst on a 9" main in Ditchling Road and repaird have begun.
"A valve was shut off in order to carry out the repair.
"Water should now be restored to all affected customers.
"They may notice some discolouration or low pressure at first; this is completely normal when there’s been a disruption to the supply and is only temporary.
"For more information on why this happens we have a dedicated webpage: southernwater.co.uk/discolouration-of-water
"One lane of Ditchling Road is closed while we carry out the repair and as a result traffic is likely to be slower than usual due to these traffic restrictions."
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Police are assisting Southern Water colleagues with traffic management following a sewer fracture in Ditchling Road, Brighton.
"A member of the public reported at 12.12pm on Friday that the burst, at the bottom of Ditchling Road by The Level, was stopping traffic and potentially making driving hazardous."
