A TEENAGER turned up to sing at a pub and was left dumbfounded when punters donated more than £1,000 to help a six year-old she was fundraising for.

Jenna Smith, 17, arrived at the Ye Olde Black Horse in Rottingdean to perform at the pub’s annual singing contest and belted out Adele’s Hometwon Glory.

And now she has received £1,300 to help William Blackshaw, who suffers from cerebral palsy and needs a specialist bath.

William suffers from the neurological condition and his mother and aunty are continuously raising awareness and funds.

Jenna, of Cowley Drive in Woodingdean, said: “I wanted to help William when I saw his page on Facebook.

“We take for granted everyday how easy our lives are and how simple it is for us to jump in a bath or shower and he needs a specialised bath to make things easier, so all I had to do was provide a bit of my time.

“I hope the money that was raised will get him one step closer to being comfortable.”

Jenna is studying child care at college and says she wants to work with disabled children after completing her studies.

Joanne Hillman, Jenna’s mother, said: “The landlords of the pub turned the whole evening around when they made everyone in the venue aware of the cause and then a large number of people donated.”

Mrs Hillman added that when they told Jenna she burst into tears because she was so overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

William lives in Worcestor. His mother Sophie Blackshaw said: “Jenna has done some amazing fundraising to date and it means so much to us.

“We are coming down to visit everyone this Saturday so that Jenna and the others can meet William before his seventh birthday this week.”

As part of her fundraising efforts, Jenna has previously completed charity work to help Children in Need and the Moore Racehorse Trust.
