CHANDELIERS at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion are getting their scheduled clean this week while the building is closed to the public.

In 1818, nine chandeliers were made by William Perry and attached to the roof to be lit with oil and have since been wired up to run on electricity.

There is one large chandelier, with a diameter of 6ft, and eight other smaller ones in the music room.

Anne Snowden, of Albion Hill, Brighton, decorative artist at the Royal Pavilion, said: “I work on restoring and decorating features within the Pavilion such as the chandeliers.

“This week I have been lucky enough to have my assistant Hannah Young working with me as I am usually here on my own to do this job.”

The chandeliers were restored in 1975 after a fire in the music room at the Pavilion.
