A MAJOR gas leak has lead to a main road being closed for almost 24 hours.
The alarm was raised at about 6pm on Saturday when a fault emerged at a gas main close to the A259 Littlehampton Road in Ferring.
The road was closed in both directions between the roundabout for Goring Street and the roundabout for Old Worthing Road as a precaution.
The nearby Asda store was also closed.
Police, fire and Southern Gas engineers spent overnight on Saturday are still at the scene today.
Drivers are warned to expect delays and to consider alternative routes.
No homes have had to be evacuated.
