A SINGER who wowed judges on a television singing contest has told how “truly grateful” she is for her support.

A very overwhelmed Clara Hurtado made the comment after she was the only contestant on Saturday night which prompted all four coaches to turn around for her in the blind auditions of The Voice.

The Spanish-born 20-year-old, of Brighton, was dubbed the luckiest competitor of them all, when famous performers will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson, Gavin Rossdale and Sir Tom Jones all pushed their buttons in the last five seconds of her song.

Singing Latch by Disclosure featuring Sam Smith, the former BIMM student said she was in shock to see each judge on the ITV show wanted her on their team.

She took to Twitter after the show to respond to the support she has received: “I can’t describe in words how truly grateful I am for the masses of support that has been coming my way. It doesn’t go unnoticed, love you all.”

In the search for talented vocal artists, the coaches listen to the acts with their backs to the stage. They only turn their chairs if they think the singer can go through to the next round and the winner lands a record deal with Polydor at the end of the show.

Clara said one of her fondest memories was listening to the Black Eyed Peas with her father Alvaro. He and her mother Sharon, who met when they both joined a band, tearfully cheered her on backstage as she sang. Her sister Ines said she was “so excited to see her sister on The Voice and was so proud of her”.

Clara picked will.i.am to be her coach after telling the audience she had decided she wanted to work with producers and rap artists. She will now go through to the knock-out stage of the ITV competition to try to get through to the live shows.

Will.i.am said: “I think I can work with you and find the kind of music that you would want to make.”

Sir Tom said: “When you started it seemed to me you were flat but you got in tune. You have a beautiful voice.”

Gavin Rossdale said she had an “incredible voice” adding: “It’s really easy to not have the best start to a song and continue going down but you didn’t. You should be proud of yourself, you have so much potential.”

The Voice returns on Saturday.
