JUNIOR rock stars strutted their stuff.

More than 350 children put on their glad rags and picked up their ukuleles to take part in a Rock Star Party.

The sell out half-term event at The Old Market in Hove was organised by Go Kid Music - an initiative to get children involved in making real music.

Organiser Al Start said: “It has been brilliant. We totally sold out. This was a celebration of our first year of the children’s music revolution.

“Once children grow out of nursery rhymes there isn’t much for them other than pop music and Disney. This is about getting children involved in real music that they can really get into. “

Amongst those to dress the part was four and a half year old Franklin Cunane, from Hove, His dad Gary said: “It’s great that there’s lots of things like this to do around here.

“Franklin’s had a great time. “

Franklin added that he hoped his friends at Brunswick Primary would be impressed by his rock star credentials – as he practised an inflatable guitar left handed like Jimmy Hendrix.

Junior rockers enjoyed a performance by Al Start and the Beastie Band, as well as making puppets, decorating cupcakes, having their faces paintedand posing in their rock star photobooth, before taking part in a workshop learning how to play the ukulele.

Sisters Maya, six, and Isabella Fondo, three, loved the singing and dancing – but were most excitied about having their photo taken by an Argus photographer.

Their mum Lorena said: “It’s been brilliant. The girls have had so much fun. “

Six year old Bella Sopa who attends music Go Kid Music classes said: “I really loved singing with Al.”

Macy Mead, five added: “I’ve had a great time. I liked having my face painted but especially the singing.”
