Firefighters used thermal imaging to monitor a fire in a floodlight during Sussex's Twenty20 match against Surrey.
Firefighters were called to the county cricket ground in Eaton Road, Hove, when smoke was seen billowing from the lamp.
Luckily - or perhaps unluckily for Sussex, who lost the one-day match against their old enemies on Friday - the fire did not affect the game as it was in the north west part of the ground and far enough away from the action.
Firefighter Graham Rudman, the officer in charge of the watch, said they arrived at 8pm and tracked the fire's progress, allowing it to burn out. They stayed on-site for about half an hour.
