A MAN was found lying in the road with life threatening head and chest injuries.
Police and paramedics were called to Mill Road, Burgess Hill, at 5.45am where the 68-year-old was found.
The road was cordoned off and pedestrians and drivers were being turned away from the road while the man was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and is being treated.
Officers are still trying to establish how he was hurt, but think he came off his bicycle.
Anyone who saw what happened should call police on 101 quoting Operation Bearwood.
