CAROLINE LUCAS put loudmouth columnist Katie Hopkins in her place after she had a dig at Brighton and Hove.

Katie Hopkins decided to use her latest Mail Online column to attack those who took part in the Donald Trump protest in London on Monday.

In particular she took exception to the Green MP, who spoke at the demonstration.

She wrote: “Happily, Caroline Lucas was on hand to speak for Vegan Matters and the lesbians of Brighton.

“She wished to deny Trump a visit to the UK because of his denial of basic climate science.

“I suspect she is also cross he loves a good cheeseburger but she didn’t have time to vocalise this important political point.”

The Brighton Pavilion MP hit back on Twitter with the withering response: “U OK hun?”

The phrase is a popular put-down on social media to patronise someone who has had a rant.

Hundreds of people retweeted and commented on the MP’s response which, temporarily, silenced Hopkins.

Twitter user Liam Hackett posted “probably the best tweet I’ve seen in a long time” while another said “considering joining the Green Party on the magnificence of this tweet alone”.

But Ms Lucas didn’t leave it there, later tweeting: “Lesbians. Vegans. Bi people. Gay people. Trans people. People of colour + everyone else! It’s modern Britain @KTHopkins, get over it.”

The response clearly got under the 42-year-old’s skin as she messaged back: “I am fine miss @CarolineLucas But you should be ashamed for wasting taxpayers cash spouting quinoa platitudes at a protest debate.”

Speaking yesterday, Ms Lucas said she should know better than to reply.

She said: “I almost didn’t bother replying to Katie Hopkins’ rants – but I just couldn’t resist. I’m sure one day she’ll take a moment to realise there’s no need to be so angry at the modern world.”
