A CYCLIST has died after being found collapsed on the road with serious head injuries.
Emergency services were called at 5.45am on Wednesday after a 68-year-old man was found lying on the ground in Mill Road, Burgess Hill.
Passers by discovered the man collapsed with his pedal cycle on top of him.
He was flown by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, having sustained life threatening injuries to his head and chest.
However he died later that same day.
Sergeant Peter Verney, of Sussex Police said: "This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this time.
"It is currently unclear as to how he sustained such serious injuries and so we are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or witnessed the incident."
