ONE of the world’s biggest comedians is coming to Brighton as part of his first stand-up tour in seven years.

Ricky Gervais, creator of The Office and Extras, will be at the Brighton Centre on May 9 with his tour, Humanity.

The 55-year-old will play a select few venues in the UK before taking the tour to Europe and America.

Gervais said: “Thousands of people paying hard-earned cash to come and see you live is such a privilege.

“You’d better have something different, interesting and funny to say.

“Humanity is my angriest, most honest and I think my best tour yet. It’s probably my most personal too.

“I feel I may as well tell you everything before I die. Hope you enjoy it. Or not. There are no refunds. Just like life, I guess.”

Gervais shot to fame with the multi-award winning The Office.

He followed it up with Extras and Derek.

The comedian has also appeared in and directed films including Cemetery Junction, Night At The Museum and Ghost Town.

Last year he released hit film Life On The Road which saw him return to the character which made his name, David Brent.

The film followed the fictional salesman as he tried to kickstart his music career.

It gained critical and commercial success with many reviewers naming it their comedy of the year.

As part of the new tour, Gervais will be visiting a number of venues for the first time, including Iceland and Canada.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be able to take this tour around the world and look forward to performing stand-up to a Canadian audience for the first time.

“Watch this space for even more dates being added too.

“I’m coming to your town – if your town has an arena and a five-star hotel with a helipad.”

Humanity will be the comedian’s fifth stand-up show following Animals, Politics, Fame and Science.

His 2007 show Fame was the fastest selling stand-up show in history, with 100,000 tickets for the London dates selling out in just nine minutes.

Tickets for Humanity are on sale now from £36.25.
