FATBOY Slim has been called on to cancel a gig in Israel.
The Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign accused the DJ, real name Norman Cook, of supporting an ”apartheid regime” and “Israel’s brutal 50-year military occupation of Palestine” with the show on March 12.
They added that hundreds of artists worldwide – including Brighton Festival guest director Kate Tempest, Elvis Costello, Jarvis Cocker, Roger Waters and Brian Eno had pledged to boycott performances in Israel.
Campaign secretary Barry Stierer said: "Mr Cook may not be aware of the cultural boycott of Israel.
"Israel benefits hugely in public relations terms when western artists perform there."
Campaign secretary Barry Stierer said: “Many Brightonians will be shocked and disappointed to learn that Norman Cook – local celebrity and cultural icon – is scheduled to perform in Israel.
“If Fatboy Slim wishes to represent the values of diversity and respect for which Brighton is famous, he will not play Israel.
"If he supports human rights and international law, and opposes apartheid and ethnic cleansing, he will not play Israel.”
The group plan to hold demonstrations across Brighton and Hove to raise awareness among the Portslade DJ’s local fanbase.
