Albion players were told Britt Assombalonga was offside when Nottingham Forest scored their contentious first goal today.

Assombalonga claimed the final touch to a shot from Zach Clough which was already beating David Stockdale as the Seagulls went down 3-0.

Albion skipper Bruno revealed his team were told by the assistant referee that Assombalonga was offside.

But the official did not know whether he had touched the ball.

Referee Oliver Langford consulted his colleague before giving the goal.

Bizarrely, a replay was being shown on the big screen close to the officials as they spoke but they were not allowed to watch the images.

Bruno said: “I was marking and I couldn’t see but Dunky (Lewis Dunk) and Liam (Rosenior) said the striker touched the ball and it was a clear offside.

“They said it was really clear and the linesman said as well, if he touched it, it was offside.

“The linesman said he didn’t see the touch but, if he touched it, he was offside. The ref saw the touch.

“But we can’t just talk about the goal because we had a lot of balls inside the box and we didn’t score.”

Forest boss Gary Brazil did not discuss the goal in detail and recognised his side might have had a bit of luck which they deserved.

But he said: “It wasn’t a defining moment in the game at all because we still had a lot of football to play.”
