Bruno believes Albion’s potential defensive stand-ins are ready for the task.

Fikayo Tomori and Uwe Heunemeier are on standby to face Rotherham at the New York Stadium tomorrow.

The Seagulls have lost the services of star centre-back Shane Duffy, who limped out of the final moments of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest with a fractured metatarsal.

Tomori has played in both full-back berths since joining on loan from Chelsea but prefers central defence. Huenemeier featured in a 3-3 draw at Brentford, when Lewis Dunk was suspended, and in the FA Cup defeat at Lincoln.

Bruno said: “Uwe has been superb in every single training session. He is so professional and he is ready to play if the gaffer needs him. Fikayo had a good game against Newcastle. It was a tough game for him. He did very well and is ready to play.”

Tomori could get the call at full-back if Bruno is used in the central defensive berth he occupied at the start of the campaign, before Duffy arrived from Blackburn.

Duffy's exit capped a catastrophic second half by the Trent for Albion. They now visit a stadium where they have lost on both previous visits.

Bruno said: “We have had bad experiences there but we saw already a lot of times that we came back stronger from big defeats. It is time to show that character again.”

Chuba Akpom is another injury concern for Albion. The on-loan striker missed the Forest game with a knee problem.
