Uwe Huenemeier has revealed his surprise at the German threat to Albion’s promotion dream.

But he expects Huddersfield to push the Seagulls all the way to the season’s final day in a tense Championship run-in.

The former Dortmund and Paderborn centre-back is poised for a first home league start since December, 2015 when Derby visit the Amex tomorrow.

Albion remain six points clear of David Wagner’s Huddersfield, who ground out a 1-0 midweek win at home to Aston Villa and have a game in hand.

Huenemeier told The Argus: “I played with (Huddersfield forward) Elias Kachunga when he was with me at Paderborn. I know a lot of the players.

“There is a style there like Jurgen Klopp played at Dortmund when he was my manager there. I am really surprised by their performance but I’m pleased for them and they will chase us until the end. We have to be prepared for that.”

The Terriers go to Brentford on Saturday.

Huenemeier added: “Chasing the ball, pressing high, always three or four players on the ball to win it.

“Those are the things they do and it is really impressive to see it.

“When they played against us, we suffered quite a lot.

“They will win games but we want to be winning games also.”

Huenemeier fared well on his return to the side in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Rotherham and is likely to have done enough to keep his place against the Rams, despite the midweek arrival of Vegard Forren.

He said: “We want to get back to winning ways at home.

“Derby are not where they want to be so they are looking for a good result. But we will be ready.”
