A TRAIN strike date has been moved so talks can be held between unions and rail bosses.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union’s Southern Rail workers were due to walk out on April 4 as part of a long-term row over the introduction of driver-only trains.

Members are now planning to strike for 24 hours on Saturday April 8, which is in the middle of the Brighton Marathon weekend.

The announcement came following an offer by Southern and its parent company, Govia Thameslink Railway, to hold talks on April 4.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said the union’s decision gave “plenty of breathing space” to get talks underway.

He urged Southern to seize the opportunity which the decision had opened up for both parties.
