MP SIMON Kirby has come under further scrutiny for his role at the Treasury during a parliamentary debate.

The Brighton Kemptown member was on the sharp end of criticism by Labour MPs which earned a rebuke from Speaker John Bercow for being “discourteous but not disorderly”.

Bassetlaw MP John Mann said the city minister had been “promoted beyond his competence” to the Treasury while fellow Labour MP Rushanara Ali described Mr Kirby’s answers as “appalling” and demanded Chancellor Philip Hammond face the House instead.

Mr Kirby, who was reportedly demoted from Brexit duties after complaints from bankers, told the MPs he was doing his very best.

His brief was quietly passed to Baroness Neville Rolfe, a more junior Treasury minister, at the end of January.
