SHOP openings these days are fairly drab affairs.

If you are lucky you might get a few balloons, a special offer and some overly enthusiastic sales staff handing out flyers.

But back in 1960 things were a little different.

Today’s main image shows a rather dramatic opening of a hardware store. The owners roped in a cowboy to show off his horsemanship to those gathered.

He is certainly dressed the part and the looks on the faces of some of those watching is priceless. Look at the three gents in the middle, upright, shot.

They look utterly bemused at the sight of the horse rearing up.

There is not a great deal of information on the caption so we are not sure where it is. Can you tell?

Continuing on the equine theme, we found these dramatic shots of jump racing also from the 1960s.

The photographer has captured the terrifying moment a rider is unseated, with the following horse narrowly missing him.

Thankfully he doesn’t appear to be too badly hurt as the image below shows him being helped to his feet.

We’re sure some of our racing fans will be able to identify the racecourse. Get in touch if you know.

In the same file of photos we found this shot of a biker, below middle.

Given the crowd behind him, we think it could have been from the Pioneer Run, which has held for the 78th time on Sunday.

Do you recognise the rider or perhaps the model of the bike. If so get in touch.

Finally today, bottom left, is a fantastic shot of Sunday league football.

It is a scene many of you will identify with: muddy pitch, scrappy kits and windy conditions.

The photo is not captioned but you can clearly see the Downs in the background. Let us know if you can locate it.

It looks like the goalkeeper has just pulled of a Stockdale-esque save. But do you know who the shot-stopper is?
