FUNDRAISERS are getting their face-paint and fancy dress ready for Red Nose Day.

Events are planned across Brighton and Hove tomorrow, including a 24-hour danceathon, a netball tournament, a bunting marathon and a goat race.

Lewes MP Maria Caulfield attended the Bake A Difference cupcake competition in London with other parliamentarians on Tuesday, which was hosted by Sainsbury’s and Maltesers to raise money for the cause.

MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace judged the competition, which gave contestants a chance to win a donation for a charity of their choice.

Ms Caulfield said: “I was pleased to attend the Bake A Difference event to help raise awareness of this great cause.

“I am hopeful to be crowned 2017 parliamentary baking champion and win a donation to a local cause of my choice.

“While the event was lots of fun it’s important to remember the reasons behind it and the important work done by Red Nose Day.”

Comedian Russell Kane performed the first live comedy gig 450ft above Brighton in the British Airways i360 pod.

The stunt on March 3 raised more than £2,000 for Flying Start, British Airways’ charity partnership with Comic Relief.

One of the more intriguing events planned for this week is a series of goat races that will be hosted by Varndean School all day tomorrow.

The races will involve five pygmy goats, which belong to the school, and the money raised will go directly to Comic Relief.

A spokeswoman for Varndean School said: “Following the success of last year’s Comic Relief bake off and cake sale, pupils and staff are working together to support Comic Relief again with the goat race and another bake-off and cake sale.”

There will be a 24-hour danceathon hosted by PW Performers at the Manor Gym in Whitehawk from 2pm this Saturday.

Companies have been asked to sponsor participants and restaurants have been asked to help by providing food during the event.

Students at Bhasvic in Dyke Road, Hove, will be raising money by hosting a mixed gender netball tournament, with eight people on each team. All participants in the tournament are asked to make give at least £1.

Lots of schools are holding cake sales, themed events and non-uniform days to raise money for the cause.
