A £1.3 BILLION offshore wind farm will help make it nice a breezy for nature lovers to get to a prime beach locations.

Rampion is funding improvements to the entrance of the Shoreham Beach boardwalk as part of a wider revamp after the energy partner reached an agreement with Adur District Council.

The work will improve the entrance to the walkway which was originally installed in 2011 with a 20m gap over land owned by residents who complained the route would invade their privacy and enjoyment of the beach.

The partnership will bring a series of major facelift works on Shoreham Beach gateway including the installation of a telescope on the beach to look out to sea to monitor the wind turbines installation.

The Ferry Road entrance to Shoreham Beach Local Nature Reserve will also benefit after Rampion Offshore Wind agreed to fund a landscaping scheme to enhance the footpath directly linking Shoreham town centre to Shoreham Ferry Beach over the £10 million Adur Ferry Bridge.

Rampion’s support will include funds to redesign and upgrade the walkway that forms the final part of the link between the Shoreham pedestrian bridge and Shoreham Beach.

The works will include sensitive and appropriate landscaping and planting, a bicycle rack and signage to create an impressive new public gateway from the currently “overgrown and unkempt” entrance.

The work will be co-ordinated by the parks and open spaces department of Adur and Worthing Council and will include consultations in the spring with all “relevant community groups” with an interest in the beach and local area included.

Councillor Emma Evans, Adur District Council executive member for environment, said the funding would enhance access to one of the most beautiful areas on the West Sussex coastline.

She said: “A new pedestrian friendly footpath will encourage residents and visitors alike to make greater use of Shoreham Beach.

“In turn, this will attract greater tourist spend with local businesses.

“It is no secret that local authorities across the UK are having to work closer with the business community and develop commercial partnerships to secure funding for schemes such as this.”

Rampion development and stakeholder manager Chris Tomlinson said: “We are pleased to fund the Shoreham Beach gateway project, which will provide an enhanced environment and fitting welcome for visitors to the unique habitat of Shoreham Beach.

“The landscaping will complete the integral pedestrian link from Shoreham town centre to the beach and have a positive impact on the area for residents and visitors.”
