Bronwen Thomas is learning all the time as she represents club and country.

And not just because she takes her college books with her on training camps.

The Albion Women forward is with the Wales squad for their latest get-together and hopes to feature in a friendly against Northern Ireland at Ystrad Mynach tomorrow (11am).

She joined up with her colleagues in good heart after scoring her second goal of the WSL2 Spring Series.

Satisfaction at that strike was tempered by the fact it came in a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

But the 17-year-old reckons there are promising signs, both with the Seagulls and the Dragons.

These are exciting times as the youngster from Horsham forges a reputation on both club and international circuits.

She recently signed off for Wales under-17s by captaining them to a 1-0 win away to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Thomas told The Argus: “I went away with the Welsh seniors recently for the Cyprus Cup, which was a really good experience. I got my first cap and really enjoyed it.

“It was great to get out on the pitch because I was hoping for that when I was called up but I think the big thing I take from being with the older players is how professional everyone is.

“For me, it’s all about trying to take that back to the junior age groups when I play for them.

“It is about trying to show that as an example to the other girls and being professional myself.

“I’ve just finished with Wales under-17s but I now go into the 19s.

“I combine that with the senior squad, if I’m selected of course.”

Albion have yet to win in the Spring Series having opened with three draws followed by defeat at Villa. They are next in action when Watford visit Culver Road a week on Sunday.

That is followed by another free week ahead of back-to-back long hauls to Durham and Everton.

It is a far cry from life in WPL South and Thomas is glad she and her colleagues have time in which to adapt.

She said: “I scored against Oxford so I have got a couple of goals in the Spring Series which is nice.

“For us as a team and me personally it’s about using our time in the Spring Series to compete but also adapt.

“We have not been together long as a new team and it takes a while to settle. But we are getting there.”

Thomas’s goal gave Albion hope after they had gone 2-0 down at Villa but they came home empty-handed.

She said: “We didn’t have our best performance, either individually or as a team, but we can learn from things that don’t go well.

“I’m really enjoying the Spring Series. It’s a higher level but it’s great experience and I think we are doing quite well.

“We had three draws to start with and some of them we could have won.”

As well as club and international commitments, Thomas is also preparing for exams. That means a bit of revision will be in the kitbag this weekend in the Principality.

She said: “We have time set aside when we are away to do work like that so I’ll take some revision with me.”
