OPERA lovers will be able to enjoy an evening of music and food fit for a king in true Regency style.

The Royal Pavilion is opening up its banqueting room for an exclusive classical performance and a sumptuous dinner later this year.

The evening promises an operatic feast with music from The Magic Flute, La Traviata and Die Fledermaus, as guests tuck into a three-course meal.

Entitled Operatic Adventures and Decadent Dining, the concert takes place on Friday, October 13 from 6.30pm to 11pm.

Produced by Lewes-based Singing Salon, it follows a sell-out performances of Hansel and Gretel at Charleston.

This latest event will take place under the directorship of mezzo soprano Pippa Dames-Longworth. Guests are invited to arrive wearing evening attire with an optional theatrical twist.

Charlotte Desjarlais, Royal Pavilion business development manager, said: “George IV was known for his love of dining and passion for music.

“He built the Royal Pavilion to indulge grandly in both.

“So we’re thrilled to be able to honour the palace with an evening that we’ve developed with Pippa Dames-Longworth.

“The performance would enthral George and lets the public experience his former royal palace in all its evening glory.”

There is also a chance to be part of the performance, with a workshop earlier in the day during which a small acting or singing role will be rehearsed.

No previous experience is necessary.

Tickets must be booked in advance and cost £95 per person (£86.50 for Royal Pavilion members). A £1.50 booking fee may apply.

Tickets cannot be reserved without payment and organisers ask for tickets to be booked early as the event may be cancelled if too few are sold.

To buy tickets, call 03000 290902 Monday to Friday, or in person at the Royal Pavilion or at city museums.
