IF ENGLAND are ever to win a World Cup again, it will be a great time for the current government to hold a General Election.

The truth is that we are not in that position nationally but the Opposition is in such chaos these days that Theresa May is seizing a strong opportunity to prolong her stay in Number 10.

But here in Sussex the feeling at the moment is akin to winning the World Cup. The Labour party at the city council must be wishing it was involved in the upcoming local elections.

The sun has been shining, Albion are in the promised land and life is a bed of roses.

That’s what it feels like anyway. We are all walking on air and that feeling will only get better when the Seagulls win the Championship title.

There is no election coming up in the city but the club’s fortunes could still help the city to prosper.

Like Albion chief executive Paul Barber has said in The Argus today and yesterday in our exclusive interview, the club – and by extension the city – will be given great worldwide coverage when people from across the globe watch Premier League games next season.

It will be refreshing for many away fans to see the welcome they get at The Amex.

They will love their time in Sussex.

Thousands will spend weekends here and spend their money at the club and in the city.

They will be strolling along the seafront and enjoying our fair city. Let’s enjoy our time in the sun and use it to help the city.

Hopefully the extra income can help the city gain much-needed investment in places such as the Madeira Terraces.
