A dustbin truck has crashed into scaffolding on a pedestrianised path.

Police were called around 9am this morning to Ann Street, Brighton, after reports of a dustbin truck crashing into scaffolding.

The collision between a Biffa waste collection truck and residential scaffolding happened on a pedestrianised path between Anne Street and the shops on London Road, near the Cash Converters.

No one was injured according to police.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue were also on scene.

Joseph Kerr, 54, from Brighton, called the emergency services as he saw the truck career into the scaffolding.

He said: “The dustbin truck came along the path and I saw it strike the scaffolding which made a fairly loud noise.

“It then went underneath and started to push the scaffolding upwards as it was being pulled loose from the building.

“The vehicle then started to move backwards which made the situation more dangerous and the structure became looser.

“There were actually young children very close to the collision at the time.

“The driver really should have taken a lot more care when pulling up with so many people around and it is lucky that more damage wasn’t done and that one was hurt.”

Another witness to the collision, Jane Stewart, 43, from Falmer, said: “I was sat there happily drinking my coffee outside Costa when the next thing I know, there was a truck that smashed into the scaffolding just metres away from my table.

“I saw the driver looking shocked as though they had misjudged the space available and there was a bit of commotion outside the coffee shop until the police turned up and put tape up to stop people walking through the path.”
