POLICE have taken the unusual step of offering a cash reward for information leading to the re-arrest of a man who has been on the run for two months.

Sussex Police are offering £500 reward for information leading to the arrest of Joey Akehurst who is wanted for failing to appear at court to answer charges of burglary.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of 40-year-old Akehurst, from Oxted in Surrey, on February 28 when he failed to appear at Lewes Crown Court to answer charges of burglary at Maresfield and Crowborough in February and April 2016.

He is known to frequent the Surrey and North Wealden areas and police want to hear from anyone who knows of his whereabouts or who may have seen him.

He is described as white, 5ft 9in, and of slim build with grey hair and blue eyes.

Akehurst is due to be tried for attempted burglary with intent to steal at a farm in Nursery Lane, Maresfield, on February 14, 2016.

The suspect in the case was disturbed outside the property before stealing anything.

He is also accused of burglary with intent to steal on April 10, 2016, at a house in Beacon Gardens, Crowborough.

The house was being renovated at the time and was not occupied.
