A COUNCIL is getting the once over by officers and councillors from local authorities around the country.

Brighton and Hove City Council has invited a team of experienced council staff and councillors to look at how it operates.

This review follows the council’s last peer review in 2014 and assessments of equality and safeguarding both carried out last year.

The previous Local Government Association review said the council showed limited ambition to improve school achievement, had poor relations with businesses and unions.

It said that although it had begun to show clearer direction and greater leadership, it was still lagging behind other councils.

A spokesman said: “This is not a formal inspection.

“Its aim is simply to give us an expert steer on what we need to do next in order to further improve our services.”
