COMMUTERS using Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express trains today will face major disruptions due to "overrunning engineering works" between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport.
One of the main southbound lines is out of use during this morning's rush hour.
One of the northbound lines will also be closed after the morning peak with the work expected to last until 4pm.
Train operators hope the service will return to normal this evening.
A spokesman for Southern Rail said: "Due to engineering works not finishing on time in the Horley area one of the Southbound lines between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport is closed.
"This means a reduced service will operate so customers are advised to check before they travel as a number of services between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport are being amended."
