Albion boss Chris Hughton has saluted his promoted players for their efforts - over two seasons.

The Seagulls were pipped for the Premier League last year but have made amends this year as runners-up to Newcastle.

Fifteen of the 18 players in the squad for Sunday's closing 1-1 draw at Aston Villa were with the club last season when they finished third, just behind Middlesbrough.

Over that time Albion have averaged almost two points per game.

Hughton told The Argus: "It's not been about one season. If I look at what the players have produced in these last two seasons, to finish with the amount of points we did, even last season, has been excellent and it's hard to do that.

"We now have to look forward to a good break and come back refreshed. There's a lot of excitement in store for them and they have got to be ready for it."
