HUNDREDS of runners got downright filthy taking part in a fun run with a difference.

The Colour Obsctacle Rush was held at Brighton Racecourse on Saturday with competitors tackling a 5km (3.1 mile) course.

But this was no normal obstacle course. Instead the runners grappled with space hoppers, negotiated bouncy castles and tackled a foam tunnel – all the while being pelted with powdered paint.

The first Colour Obstacle Rush was held in Finland in 2014 under the Finnish name Variestejuoksu. Since then organisers have introduced tours in the United States and Europe.

The Brighton event saw runners tackle 20 obstacles and eight colour stations, where they were pelted with powdered paint.

There was also a water balloon fight area, a sponge ball ocean, numerous inflatable slides and a chill-out zone at the finish for competitors to get their breath

The powdered paint used is made from natural corn starch which has been dyed with food and cosmetic colours. There is a separate Color Run held in Madeira Drive, Brighton, in the autumn.
