A JEWELLER to the stars' business has gone into administration.

Brighton jeweller Jeremy Hoye has been well know for his quirky designs since setting up shop in Brighton's Lanes in 1994 and designed jewellery for celebrity clients including Victoria Beckham, Holly Willoughby, Fearne Cotton, Edith Bowman, Katie Melua and Gary Numan. .

In 2011 Jeremy went into business with Buxton and Avon, owned by Gary Hamblyn.

But after a falling out with the new owner they parted ways and Jeremy left the original business reopened the flagship Ship Street store under the name House of Hoye.

Meanwhile Buxton and Avon, trading as Jeremy Hoye Ltd, set up in Ship Street Gardens.

Jeremy's  House of Hoye  business has now had to call in liquidators and close the shop. But the jeweller is still designing for clients under the name Jeremy Hoye Designer and Jeweller.

In a statement made to the London Gazette Mr Hoye, as director of House of Hoye said: "The company will be wound up voluntarily and that Elias Paourou and David Oprey, both of CVR Global LLP, Hove, are hereby appointed as Joint Liquidators for the purpose of such winding up and that the Joint Liquidators are to act jointly and severally.”

Speaking to The Argus Jeremy said: "The reason for closing the shop was to do more online and more commissions.

“It’s a shame the face of Brighton is closing.

“But people dont shop like they used to."

He is still designing jewellery from his studio in St George's Place Brighton.

Jeremy first opened his shop in Ship Street with his business partner and wife Mary using a loan from his grandmother and the Prince’s Trust. He went on to design monocles for Chris Eubank and a belly bar for Victoria Beckham.

His first celebrity client was Robert Downey Jr. He took orders worldwide with stars such as Faithless, Avril Lavigne and the Beckhams on his books.

Speaking to The Argus in 2004 he said he would advice young designers "Stick by your originality and stay as small as you can for as long as you can, "

Mr Hamblyn's previous firm Buxton and Avon went into liquidation in 2014. He then set up Jeremy Hoye Jewellery Ltd, based in Eastbourne in 2016.

A spokesman for Jeremy Hoye Jewellery Ltd: "I'd like to make it clear to your readers, that Jeremy Hoye no longer works for his old business and that Jeremy Hoye Jewellery Ltd is in good health, with a clear and exciting future."

Reports filed with companies house showed House of Hoye owed debts of £75,000 to HM Revnue and Customs and £4,000 to Brighton and Hove City Council.
