UNLESS you were living under a rock, you will have noticed the Snowdogs brightening up the streets of Brighton last autumn.

The success of the charity initiative encouraged artists in Hanover, Brighton, to launch their art trail Snowcats.

Visitors have until the end of Wednesday to spot the 46 colourful felines which can be seen in the windows of houses across Hanover, with organiser Lucy Clifford describing the trail as a great half-term event.

Maps of the route are available from shops and restaurants including Guyatri News, Fanny’s of Hanover and The Dover Castle Pub. Among the cats featured is one signed by Chris Steed from TV’s Gogglebox.

Chris will host an auction of the artworks to raise money for missing pet charity Lost Cats Brighton.

Lucy said the trail would “appeal to everyone from primary school children seeking out the beautiful cats to art connoisseurs.”

The Martlets hospice, the charity behind the Snowdogs, was happy for Lucy to use the name Snowcats.

Two artists who designed dogs turned their hand to felines; Jamie McQuillan, who pained Blot the Dog, and Katherine Griffin, who was responsible for Bobby. Bestselling author Peter James has also commissioned a Snowcat, which Lucy made.

She was overwhelmed with applications from artists wanting to take part. She said: “We didn’t know popular it would be but I had to say no to quite a few people right up until the start of the trail.”

Chris Steed said: “I’m supporting Lost Cats Brighton because losing a pet is one of the most traumatic experiences an owner can go through. I was distraught when (our cat) Ginge went missing, but I was very fortunate to get him back.

“I am really looking forward to the evening and raising urgently needed funds to help Lost Cats Brighton.”

The Snowcats auction takes place at The Dover Castle Pub, Hanover, on June 20 from 6.30pm.

Snowcats will be available to view in art galleries from June 1 to 19, including Cameron Contemporary Art, Naked Eye Gallery, Brush, The Open Studios and Art5 Gallery.
