Albion players are mourning the death of Cheick Tiote, who was signed for Newcastle by the Seagulls' boss Chris Hughton.
Former Toon midfielder Tiote, 30, died after collapsing following training in China with his team Beijing Enterprises.
Albion's French winger Anthony Knockaert tweeted: "Really sad and shocked to hear the death of Cheick Tiote ... RIP."
Defender Connor Goldson, who has recovered from heart surgery, tweeted: "Terrible news".
Hughton took Tiote to Newcastle from Dutch club FC Twente in 2010.
He made more than 160 appearances for the North-East giants and represented Ivory Coast in two World Cups.
