AN ESTATE agent from Worthing has said she is “shocked” to have been crowned Miss Brighton at the city’s annual beauty pageant.

Isobel Mills, 20, picked up the crown and sash at the Jury’s Inn Waterfront on Sunday, in front of a 200-strong audience.

Isobel said: “It feels amazing.

“I never thought it would happen.

“I literally didn’t think I’d win it. It’s quite a shock.”

Isobel has been involved in the pageant since the second round of castings in March.

“I turned up and I was so nervous but everyone was really nice.”

She was supported on Sunday by her family and her boyfriend and his family, and said she “couldn’t process” the victory until returning to her room.

She said: “I was so gobsmacked and trying so hard not to cry because I didn’t want to ruin my make-up.”

The pageant’s four rounds required quick costume changes from the young women, switching from jeans and t-shirts to little black dresses, bikinis and evening gowns, which were provided by Frock UK in Rottingdean.

Reigning Miss Great Britain Ursula Carlton was on hand to help with the judging, as was last year’s Miss Brighton winner, Megan O’Hara.

Isobel, who works for Michael Jones estate agent in Worthing, said she was looking forward to carrying out charity work over the coming months.

In the run-up to the pageant she raised more than £200 by completing a sponsored walk from Brighton Pier to Worthing Pier dressed as Wonder Woman.

Local singer Joanne Bacon headlined the evening show.

Second and third places went to Christina Loizou and Lucy D’Agostino.

The winner of Miss Charity was Rebecca Kite, a Brighton bus driver who raised money by walking her entire bus route dressed as a princess.

Money raised by all the participants in the final has been donated to Amanda’s Angels, which funds brain cancer research, and the Connor Saunders Foundation.

Isobel will now represent Brighton at Miss Great Britain in Leicester in September.
