STAFF from law firm Mayo Wynne Baxter are continuing to support the Rockinghorse Appeal with a series of events.

The latest of these was the The Best of British charity sporting lunch at The Grand which raised £35,550 for the charity’s 50th year appeal, Sussex Giving for Sussex Children.

With eight offices and almost 200 staff, Mayo Wynne Baxter is a legal practice in the South East.

Ryan Heal, chief executive of Rockinghorse, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been voted as the chosen charity by staff at Mayo Wynne Baxter for two years.

“The law firm is very well respected in the count, so it is fantastic to be able to align ourselves with them during our 50th anniversary celebrations.”

Rockinghorse is the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton and a vital supporter of the neighbouring Trevor Mann Baby Unit and its sister site, the Special Care Baby Unit in Haywards Heath.

It raises money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment whilst ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs.

Mayo Wynne Baxter chairman Dean Orgill said: “Anyone who has ever visited the Alex, or seen any of the other great work done by Rockinghorse in other places around the county, can have no hesitation in supporting this wonderful charity.”

Earlier this year Mayo Wynne Baxter took a medieval approach to fundraising by organising The Brighton Medieval Banquet in aid of Rockinghorse.

The Grand Hotel was transformed into a castle banqueting hall with long banqueting tables of food and drink served from medieval themed tableware, a celebrity King and Queen on the throne and an array of medieval entertainment.

MD Jason Edge said: “Putting on something like this has been a real challenge as it hadn’t been done before and we couldn’t have done it without the fantastic support from my team,

“The Grand, our sponsors, prize donors and the wonderful guests who really embraced the theme.”

Meanwhile, the charity sporting lunch has become a consistently sold-out event and a highlight in the calendar for many local businesses in the city.

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal with wine and dug deep to give generously in the raffle and auction.

Mr Heal, organiser of the Best of British event, said: “For any charity to be going strong for 50 years is quite incredible.

“When Dr Trevor Mann started Rockinghorse in the late sixties, I’m sure he would be proud that his vision is still going strong as events like Best of British show”

Next year’s Best of British promises to be even bigger and better.
