Soul Legends

*****

Pavilion Theatre Worthing, June 9

THIS feel-good show encouraged Worthing’s theatre goers to get on board the soul train.

Soul Legends, a two-hour musical journey through the sixties, seventies and eighties, featured six talented singers and dancers backed by a four-piece live band.

The audience were quickly up on their feet and dancing in the aisles to classic hits including Respect, Ain’t Nobody, Three Times A Lady, Proud Mary, You’re My First My Last My Everything and Get Down On It.

The male vocalists shone during Stand By Me with tight harmonies and terrific vocal flair.  However, the night belonged to the female vocalists who made light work of the famously complex vocals of likes of Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan, receiving a mid-show standing ovation for (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

The lively audience cheered loudly throughout and lapped up moments to sing along.

The complex, yet slick choreography gave each musical number a polished finish, never at detriment to the consistently strong vocals, and frequent costume changes added to the spectacle.

Soul Legends ended on a high with a medley of hits by Earth Wind and Fire, leaving the audience dancing out of the theatre.

An energetic, enjoyable celebration of sweet soul music.
