AN award-winning restaurant has closed – with the owners blaming the ongoing Southern Rail crisis.

24 St George’s, in St George’s Road, Brighton, was regarded as one of the city’s finest restaurants with The Argus' restaurant critic The Gourmand giving it a rave review just last month.

But owner Jamie Everton-Jones has decided not to renew the lease after a fall in customers.

He said up to 30 per cent of diners were from London. He added the ongoing problems with the rail operator had meant bookings had fallen drastically.

He also cited an increase in food costs because of Brexit and increased competition in the shape of newly opened Etch and Redroaster.

The Gourmand described 24 St George’s as one of the city’s finest and praised the flawless service. Mr Everton-Jones thanked staff and customers for their support.
