THE funeral for an acrobat who died when his act went tragically wrong was held in Spain yesterday.

Pedro Aunión Monroy, from Brighton, was performing at the Mad Cool festival in Madrid on Friday when he plunged 100ft to his death.

A Buddhist ceremony was held on Saturday and a Catholic cremation was carried out yesterday.

Friends said a Prince song was played at his funeral and that his ashes will be buried with his grandmother’s in his native Spain.

Mr Monroy died between performances by Alt-J and Green Day and paramedics spent 30 minutes trying to revive him.

It is unclear at this stage what caused the fall.

Mr Monroy had his own performance company, In Fact Aerial Dance, which is based in Portslade.

He also worked as a massage therapist at The Grand hotel, Brighton.

Investigations are continuing with the mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, telling Mr Monroy’s family he wants to find out exactly what led to the tragic incident.

His partner, Michael Sells, also from Brighton, paid tribute to his boyfriend over the weekend.

Speaking to The Argus, he said: “He was a beautiful loving man who has changed my lie for the better.

“I love my partner very much.”

Pedro had posted a heartbreaking comment on Facebook to Michael the day before his death.
