FOUR former teachers at a private school have been charged with non-recent sexual offences.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place at Christ’s Hospital School in Horsham.

Jayne Cioffi, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Four men, all former teachers at Christ’s Hospital School, were informed that they have been charged with non-recent sexual offences.

“Having carefully considered the evidence in this case, we have concluded that in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute.”

Gary Dobbie, 66, of Albi, France, is charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a male, one count of attempted indecent assault on a male and three of indecent assault on a female.

James Andrew Husband, 67, of Wigginton Road, York, is charged with five counts of indecent assault on a female and four of rape.

Ajaz Karim, 62, of Baron's Court Road, London, is charged with nine counts of indecent assault on a female and one of attempted indecent assault on a female.

Peter Webb, 74, of Authon-Edeon, France, is charged with six counts of indecent assault on a male.

The charges relate to a total of 15 complainants.

They will appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on August 9 in relation to these charges.

The alleged offences took place between 1980 and 1996.

Ms Cioffi is a Senior Crown Prosecutor in the CPS South East Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team.

A spokesman for the school told a national newspaper at the time: “Christ’s Hospital takes its moral and legal obligation to safeguard pupils very seriously.

“The school is aware that arrests have been made in relation to some non-recent allegations and is co-operating fully with police investigations.”

The arrests came amid a growing number of allegations of child sex abuse in boarding schools.

The Christian school is in the diocese formerly overseen by Bishop of Lewes Peter Ball who served a 32-month sentence for abusing 18 young men.
