Tributes have been paid to a long-standing councillor who has passed away.

Joan Bradley was first elected to serve the Marine ward on Worthing Borough Council in 2004.

During her time on the authority, she became well-known for work in her community and as chairman of the local authority’s Planning Committee.

After 13 years in post, Joan resigned from her post in May this year citing ill-health. She died on Thursday while staying with her family.

Dan Humphreys, leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: "I first met Joan about ten years ago when I joined the West Worthing Conservative association.

"She was always a source of good advice and support. I served alongside her on the planning committee and very much valued her leadership on that committee.

"Joan's forthright manner and diligent approach to being a councillor will be sorely missed, as will the friendship and support she offered to councillors of all parties."
