A £100,000 skate park will be officially opened this weekend.

The park, in Beach Green, Lancing, has been funded by section 106 payments received by Adur District Council.

The developer payments came from the building of Brighton and Hove Albion’s new training ground.

The event today, which is being hosted by Lancing Parish Council, will start at 1.30pm.

There will be skating demonstrations and competitions with prizes for those taking part.

Councillor Neil Parkin, leader of Adur District Council, said: “I’m delighted to see this community facility open which will allow young people from Lancing and beyond to enjoy the great outdoors for many years to come.

“The has been a real team effort. I want to thank ward councillor James Butcher, who was chairman of Lancing Parish Council at the time and asked Brighton and Hove Albion to fund this.

“I also want to praise the input of local youngsters who had a say in the design and location of the scheme.”

Section 106 contributions are paid by developers in return for planning permission.

The money is usually used to improve infrastructure and public spaces.
