ONE armed brawler shouted, “come on I’ll cut your throat”, before he and another man were both taken to hospital with stab wounds.

The men were heard fighting in The Charltons, Coldean, Brighton. A 38-year-old man was later discovered with serious stab wounds to his stomach while a 35-year-old man was found with stab wounds to his neck.

A resident told The Argus she heard the commotion outside.

She said: “I was sitting watching TV at about 8.15pm when I heard loads of banging.

“The next thing a man was standing next to a gate shouting, ‘come on, come on, I’ll cut your throat if you come out’.

“He then said, ‘he tried to stab me in the throat’.

“That’s when I rang 999 as I was coming downstairs in my house.

“I then saw blood dripping from the man’s hand.

“The other man was lying on the floor by the front door of his house after being stabbed in his lower abdomen.

“Eventually I got through to the operator and just tried to look away. It was really bad.

“The other man left, heading down the road. He doesn’t live in the street.

“The police response was huge. It was just shocking as this is usually such a quiet place.”

Other residents of The Charltons told The Argus how the dramatic incident unfolded.

One man said: “A bloke was in the street shouting, ‘I have been stabbed in the neck’.

“I then heard someone say ‘**** off’

“Then the other one said, ‘Come down here and say that’.

“After that is when the attack must have happened.

“That’s all I heard really.

“Soon afterwards around seven police cars, including a fast response unit, and an ambulance turned up in the street.

“They were there for quite a while, maybe just under an hour.”

The 38-year-old was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with injuries which were believed to be life changing but not life threatening.

He remained in hospital as The Argus went to press last night.

The other man was also taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

He was later arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and assaulting a police officer.

He remained in police custody yesterday.
