A TOWN is set to lose a major bank branch in a further blow to its high street.

Barclays has announced it will shut its bank in Shoreham High Street due to a fall in customers.

The branch is set to close on Friday, November 3, after the bank reported just 123 customers still regularly use the branch exclusively for banking with a ten per cent drop in the past 12 months.

Banking bosses said the decline in customers walking into the branch has been caused by a wider take-up of online, telephone and mobile device options.

The news comes just months after the announcement that the town’s Crown Post Office was to close.

Barclays has confirmed it will retain branches in Southwick, Lancing and Worthing while there would also be access to services at the nearby post office in Brunswick Road.

Staff at the Shoreham bank branch have been offered positions at other branches nearby.

Consumer experts Which said around 500 major high street branches are set to close nationwide this year.
