ALBION fans enjoying the Spanish sunshine were dragged out of a friendly match by police after beach balls were thrown among the crowd.

Four fans were told they could not watch the rest of Albion’s friendly against Girona in Palamos on Tuesday night after trying to raise the atmosphere between supporters.

Among them was Angelo Fagnani, 22, from Hastings, who travelled to the Spanish city with his friend Tom King on Monday after booking flights a month ago.

Just 20 minutes after being let in to the stadium, Angelo was being taken out by riot police after other supporters were bouncing the beach balls around.

Angelo said: “We made friends with three lads who I was standing next to during the game. They blew up a beach ball and hit it around, then all of a sudden police told them to stop.

“The police said come outside and I thought I was going to get nicked.

“They wanted to search us but I refused and then they said I’m not allowed to go back in the stadium. I didn’t even touch the ball.”

Angelo paid more than £200 for flights, accommodation and a match ticket for his trip to Girona, and was devastated when he could not watch Albion play.

He has supported them for 12 years.

He said: “The lads were just having a laugh and they didn’t even get a warning.

“If they came over and gave them one I could understand but there was nothing at all.

“We went all that way to watch 20 minutes of football. That’s the quickest ever football match I’ve been to.”

They had already waited an hour to buy tickets and the lack of staff at the stadium meant they did not get let in until 25 minutes of the game had passed.

Angelo and Tom went to a pub across the road to watch the second half after Angelo and the other fans were shouted at by police for 20 minutes outside the stadium before telling them they were not allowed back in.

The match ended 0-0 and Angelo joked: “Luckily we didn’t miss much.

“But that’s not the point. We were so gutted we didn’t get to watch the game after planning it a month ago.”

Tom, 24, also from Hastings, did not get thrown out but left because he was worried for his friend’s safety after seeing him manhandled out of the ground.

He said: “When we got in, three fans standing next to us inflated two beach balls which they threw around the away end and everyone was having a good time.

“We were so excited for the trip, but when Angelo was grabbed I was worried. I couldn’t leave my mate alone.

“No one got hit but they grabbed their arms and pulled them around a bit. I followed outside the ground to keep and eye on him. They all thought they were getting nicked as they had them up against the wall for so long.”
