Chris Hughton has described Neymar’s £200 million move to Paris St-Germain as a “staggering” deal.
But the more immediate concern for the Albion boss is rising transfer fees in lower-profile moves this summer.
Albion are looking to make signings in increasingly a seller’s market.
They are keen to remain as prudent as possible, despite their new-found Premier League riches.
But Hughton reckons even deals as far out of Albion’s league as that which saw Neymar leave Barcelona can ultimately have a knock-on effect in their part of the market.
He said: “I think that deal is an exceptional one.
“Neymar is probably in the three best players in the world. We mustn’t lose sight of that “Yes, it is a staggering amount of money.
“In general, transfer fees have gone higher this summer and there has been a knock-on effect for clubs at different levels below that.
“Representatives from PSG believe, in a year’s time, he will be worth double that.
“I’m not sure that will be the case but we are talking huge figures.
“But the norm has been an increase across the board.”
