Albion's Premier League spending is set to soar to nearly £50 million after shattering their transfer record twice in four days.

The Seagulls yesterday confirmed the capture of Colombian left-winger Jose Izquierdo from Belgian club FC Brugge, subject to a medical, work permit and international clearance.

The Argus understands the fee for the diminutive 25-year-old is around £13.5 million.

Albion splashed out around £10 million on Monday for Dutch midfielder Davy Propper from PSV Eindhoven.

That outstripped the previous record of £5.2 million for Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan from Valencia in June. They have also signed former Ingolstadt duo Pascal Gross and Markus Suttner this summer, each for around £3 million, and Izzy Brown on loan for the season from Chelsea.

And they will have to fork out in excess of £8 million to land Ghanaian striker target Raphael Dwamena from Swiss side FC Zurich.

Boss Chris Hughton wants to add another right-back and goalkeeper to the squad as well before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

Albion’s head of recruitment Paul Winstanley was in Bruges on Wednesday evening and chief executive Paul Barber in London to finalise details of the record-breaking deal with Izquierdo and his representatives.

Owner-chairman Tony Bloom has sanctioned the level of spending to give Hughton the best possible chance of keeping the Seagulls up.

Hughton said: “Jose is someone we have been aware of for some time and has been one of the standout players in the Belgian league over the past three years.

“He’s been an exciting player for Club Brugge and in the season he helped the club win the title, in 2015-16, he was also Belgium’s Player of the Year.

“Jose has good experience with almost 250 senior games in both Colombia and Belgium, and has played in the Europa League, Champions League and international football, having made his debut for his national team this summer.”

The 5ft 7in Izquierdo began his professional career in Colombia with hometown club Deportivo Pereira, moving to Once Caldas in 2013, then to Europe in 2014 with Brugge where he has scored 34 goals in 84 league appearances.

He made his international debut as a late substitute against Spain in June and came on to score against Cameroon a week later.

Izquierdo is not available for tomorrow’s opening game at home to Manchester City. His medical is scheduled for today and a work permit hearing for next Wednesday.

The prolific Dwamena, meanwhile, scored 30 goals in 38 games last season for Austrian club Lustenau and Zurich, who were promoted back to the Super League.

He joined Zurich from second tier Lustenau in January for just £250,000, but the Swiss outfit are holding out for the best price possible. Dwamena, 21, has hit the ground running in the Super league this season with two goals in three games, both against Zurich’s city rivals Grasshoppers.
