COUNCIL bosses are preparing to take action in response to any recommendations from investigations now taking place in London over concerns about the stability of council blocks.
Four tower blocks on the south London Ledbury estate are being evacuated after housing consultant Tony Bird raised fears they could have collapsed “killing lots of people” because of their construction method.
Larissa Reed, Brighton and Hove City Council’s director for housing, said: “We are closely monitoring the situation at the Ledbury Estate in Peckham, and we will review our own properties and practices in light of any information from Southwark Council’s own investigation. We want to reassure tenants and leaseholders that their health and safety is our highest priority. Brighton and Hove City Council high rise blocks are inspected every year to make sure they meet current safety standards. All council homes in the city have 100 per cent gas safety compliance.”
