A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with a midnight crash.

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to report a road accident following a collision between two 4x4 vehicles on the A259 at North Bersted, Bognor Regis, which happened at around 12.30am today.

One driver, a 45-year-old man, had to be rescued by firefighters at the scene of the incident on the A259 near Bognor Regis.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious leg and pelvic injuries.

The collision happened just before 12.30am today, with the road being closed until 7am by emergency services.

The 45-year-old man was driving a blue Mitsubishi Shogun, while the other driver was in a red Jaguar F Pace travelling in the opposite direction.

The Jaguar driver ran away after the crash.

The 27-year-old handed himself in at Chichester police station at around 10am today, and is currently in custody.
